Who are Alberta's Separatists and What Do They Really Want?

We're excited to be welcoming Professor Feo Snagovsky (University of Alberta, Department of Political Science) for a seminar on Alberta separatism.

Abstract: Who supports Alberta separatism, what do they want, and how are they pursuing their goals? This talk explores how a broad push for greater leverage within Canada has become shaped by a smaller but influential far-right populist faction seeking independence and a rollback of progressive policies.

Feo Snagovsky

Associate Professor, University of Alberta
Dr. Feo Snagovsky is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Alberta. His research examines support for democratic values and authoritarian alternatives to democracy, why people believe in conspiracy theories, and the role that political elites play in shaping political attitudes. His recent book – Who Cares About Representation? Race, Ethnicity, and Legitimacy in Westminster Democracies (UBC Press) – examines how perceptions of democratic legitimacy relate to the ethnic identities of voters and their representatives.
